CAIPE, or Community AI Platform Engineering, is an open-source initiative focused on leveraging multi-agent AI systems to enhance platform operations. The project aims to provide a secure, scalable, and persona-driven reference implementation with built-in knowledge base retrieval. It is designed to integrate with internal developer portals such as Backstage and developer environments like VS Code, facilitating adoption and extensibility.
The system is composed of specialized sub-agents that interact with various engineering tools. Examples include agents for ArgoCD (continuous deployment), PagerDuty (incident management), GitHub (version control), Jira/Confluence (project management), and Slack/Webex (team communication). These agents enable complex operations through agentic workflows by invoking relevant APIs.
Key features of CAIPE include a curated prompt library for high accuracy in multi-agent systems, multiple end-user interfaces for programmatic or UI-driven workflow invocation, end-to-end security for agentic communication and task execution, and enterprise-ready cloud deployment architectures for scalable and resilient systems. The project supports both multi-node (production-ready) and single-node (development) deployment modes.
